The purpose of my piece was to combine the classical elements of Vincent Van Goghs post impressionism with the modern elements of Dromsjels (Pierre Schmidt) modern, psychadelic, and digitalized style. The combination of the two goes to create a contrasting yet cohesive composure that still depicts elements of who I am, connecting the piece to my own identity. I implemented two portraits, one taken recently by myself, and another photo of myself at a younger age. Additionally, all objects blended into the edges of the portraits were taken by myself. Using photoshop, I was also able to create digital illustrations that I incorporated. Contemporary portraiture hinted with retro elements is characteristic of Pierre Schmidts style and can be seen in my work as well. The modern composition combined with a faded, sepia overlay create this appearance. The impressionist painting seen in the digital illustration sections of the piece is reminiscent of Van Goghs unique creation style and was done by softly blending together groups of tiny lines applied to the layer (using separate colors to create depth). The swirling painted sections of the piece reference Dromsjels use of distortion and work to simulate the melted-like appearance displayed in many of his pieces. Overall, my completed piece addresses the anxieties of growing up, finding your own identity, and seeing the ways you've changed. By utilising the techniques of my inspirations I was able to portrays a story connected to who I am as an individual.
