This piece continues with concepts seen in project three as I work to examine my ADD and its impacts. In oil on canvas, it is inspired by Mary Cassatt's, "Woman with a Fan", compositionally, conceptually, and more. I have struggled with ADD for my entire life, however, I was not diangosed until I was in my junior year. At this point, my doctors recommended I try medication. My thoughts of its efficacy were mixed; it did allow me to alleviate my symptoms, however, it was very tiring to inevitably feel every symptom come back at the end of the day. In particular, it was difficult to feel myself lose the focus I knew I had, and therefore, the magnifying glass represents how I attempt to look further into myself to find the abilites I know I posess. The messy overfilled scenery of the room is meant to simulate the racing disorganized thoughts I begin to experience as it wears away but also to how an artist may paint anything subjectively unattractive and make it aesthetically pleasing.
