For me and my father (both diagnosed with ADD), starting a task we aren’t passionate about is quite difficult. The gesture of the hand is often used to represent the act of reaching out for a new beginning (for a handshake, to write a letter, etc). ADD is often misinterpreted as a “lack of focus” when it’s actually too much distracting focus on a person's passions. My piece depicts the struggle faced towards “uninteresting” tasks and an inseparable draw to things creative- what you physically create with your hands.
